Pizzas are undoubtedly one of the greatest foods ever! I don’t know a single soul who doesn’t love pizza. The idea of tangy sauce spread across the soft, buttery, soft pizza base sounds irresistible. The favorite toppings adorning it like jewels on a crown and the fragrant herbs adding a vibe of freshness to it is way too delectable.

Pizzas are just amazing and even more so when making them at home with so much love. Today I am sharing an unconventional pizza recipe that will blow your mind! No kidding! It’s called the naanza pizza recipe (नानज़ा रेसिपी). Naanza is short for naan pizza.

toppings and sauce for the naanza recipe

I gave myself a break from the conventional tomato-based pizza sauce, pizza cheese, and the Italian herbs this time. I wanted to create something new in my kitchen. I had some leftover naan bread. And that’s how the idea of naanza recipe came to my mind.

I have kept the toppings minimal and simple. I have used grilled chicken, onions, and olives. Instead of pizza sauce I have used garlic sauce made from hung curd/greek yogurt. The naanza recipe has no cheese in it. Prepared in the oven, right from grilling the chicken to baking the pizza, naanza recipe is extremely easy to put together. Your family is going to love it.

The ingredients of the marinade for chicken are used so sparingly that they just bring an element of completeness to the taste. None of the herbs, aromatic, spices overpower the other flavors; there is no dominance. The grilled chicken bits are juicy and have a mild taste but loads of flavour.

If you want to make a vegetarian naanza recipe, you can use your favorite veggies and some paneer as toppings. Capsicum, onion, sweet corn, mushrooms, and olives make a great combination. Use mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce instead of garlic sauce.

For Making the Garlic Sauce
  • Hung curd/Greek yogurt – ¾ cup
  • Salt – to taste
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp
  • Jaggery – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1 tbsp, chopped
For Making the Grilled Chicken
  • Boneless chicken (thigh & leg meat) – 250 grams, cut into ½-inch pieces
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp
  • Thick curd/Greek yogurt – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Roasted cumin powder/Jeera powder – ⅛ tsp
  • Cracked black pepper – ½ tsp
  • Garlic – 4 cloves, freshly pounded/grated
  • Lemon juice – 5-6 drops
Other Ingredients
  • Naan bread – 4 (recipe here)
  • Sliced onions – seasoned with salt and lemon juice
  • Green olives – sliced
Instructions
  1. First of all, let’s marinade the chicken. Combine chicken, thick curd/Greek yogurt, olive oil, cracked black pepper, roasted cumin powder, salt, garlic, and lemon juice in a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix everything well. Cover the bowl and pop it into the refrigerator for at least 3-4 hours.
  3. In the meanwhile, let’s prepare the garlic sauce recipe. Combine jaggery and water in a microwave-friendly bowl. Microwave for 30-40 seconds until the jaggery melts. Give it a mix.
  4. Combine garlic, olive oil, jaggery water, and salt in a blender. Adjust the jaggery water depending on how sweet the jaggery is. I used up the entire thing.
  5. Also, add 1 tbsp of thick curd/Greek yogurt to the blender.
  6. Blend everything to make a very smooth paste.
  7. Add the remaining thick curd/Greek yogurt to the blender and blend everything for a few seconds. The sauce should be thick, so do not blend it for very long.
  8. Pop the garlic sauce into the refrigerator until ready to use.
  9. To cook the chicken, arrange it onto the skewers.
  10. You can cook the chicken directly over the stove flame. You could grill it over the charcoal grill or in the gas tandoor. You could bake it in the preheated convection oven for 15-20 minutes at 220 degrees C. Or you could simply broil/grill it on the top rack of the oven like I did until the chicken gets cooked through.
  11. Now let’s make the pizza. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C. Keep the naan on the baking sheet or baking tray. Spread 2-3 tbsp garlic sauce on the naan. Don’t use a lot of it.
  12. Arrange the toppings over it; grilled chicken, green olives, onions seasoned with lemon juice and salt. Bake it at 220 degrees C for 6-7 minutes. The naan would turn crisp too.
  13. Naanza recipe is ready. Cut the pizza into the desired shape. Serve the naan pizza hot. Enjoy!
