Tomato soup recipe - A healthy and hearty home-style soup made with fresh, ripe tomatoes, flavored with bay leaf and garlic.
  • Tomatoes – 8 medium, halved
  • Yellow moong dal – 1 tsbp, soaked for 15 minutes
  • Butter – 2 tbsp
  • Onion – 2 tbsp, finely chopped
  • Garlic – ½ tbsp, minced
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Black pepper – ¾ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Sugar – ½ tbsp
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
  • Ketchup – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 2 & ½ cups
  • Cream – for garnish
  1. Fill up a pressure cooker with water and add tomato and moong dal to it. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Let the pressure release.
  2. Let the tomatoes cool and grind them to a smooth paste using all the water.
  3. Strain the paste to get rid of the peel and seeds.
  4. Melt butter in a stock pot and add onion and bay leaf to it. Sauté on a low flame till the onion turns translucent.
  5. Add minced garlic and sauté for 2 minutes till it gives out a nice aroma.
  6. Pour in the strained tomato extract. Bring it to a boil.
  7. Add salt, sugar, and black pepper.
  8. Add ketchup. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.Stir with a soup spoon often.
  9. Finish with coriander leaves. Tomato soup recipe is ready.
  10. Serve in a bowl and garnish with cream. Serve hot tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich. Enjoy!
